The Farmer’s Wife Quilt-Along Intro
Blogland is abuzz with talk about the latest Farmer’s Wife Sampler Quilt QAL, started by Angela of {fussy cut} and Amanda of msmcporkchopquilts. Not only is the Flickr group busy, busy, but Twitter is constantly updating with tweets tagged #FWQAL.
Essentially, everyone is trying to do two blocks a week, in any order, out of The Farmer’s Wife Sampler Quilt by Laurie Aaron Hird.
Right now, in the parlance of the group, I am merely dating the farmer.
We’ve been on a couple of dates so far. Our first date was to JoAnn’s where we took advantage of a 40% off books sale to get the book.
Our second date was out to Patchwork Plus in Marcellus, NY (about a 1.5 hour drive for me, but the best “local” shop I’ve found so far) to use a Groupon on FQs. I think most are Laura Gunn for Michael Miller. One is Word Play. Not sure on the others. It seems like a fun color palette to play with.
We’re having some trouble finding time for each other, and it’s nothing exclusive. We’ve fooled around a bit; I’ve looked at the CD of templates and found a resource to download them for printing multiples on a page. We definitely haven’t been intimate yet. I need at least another couple weeks before that will happen. I hope that starting around July 8, we can see each other every Friday, and am already planning on taking him to the next UMQG sew-together on July 17.
Is it to soon to think I’m already falling in love? I may have to be forward-minded and propose in a few weeks, so long as he’s willing to entertain an open marriage. I just can’t see myself being happy in a one-project marriage. But that doesn’t mean I won’t be committed. I might even let him be my primary project for a while. I do hope it can be a permanent thing for as long as it takes to finish him.
