A New Space
I have a new sewing space! My hobby is no longer relegated to a corner of the living room in our small one-bedroom apartment; I now have an entire room to myself—in our new house! We finally closed on Friday, and were moving in/starting to unpack for most of the weekend, but I managed to get myself set up a bit, so that I could work on our nephews’ presents—Christmas is coming too soon! Here’s a horribly grainy cell-phone photo of my space, since the good camera is still in a box somewhere (with my laptop charger 🙁 )!
One nephew present finished, four to go. Not to mention much more unpacking, and needing to haul my bookcase upstairs to the room so that I can organize.
That is the smallest of our three bedrooms, but it should be more than sufficient (for now, mwahaha). We keep going back and forth about which room I should use—that one or the other spare bedroom—and which should be the guest room.
The other room has horrendous carpet that dates from the 1970s. We knew when we put the offer in that it needed to come out almost immediately, but we didn’t know what was under it, and don’t have the money to put other flooring in at the moment. We found out that there is hardwood under it, but that the carpet pad was glued down (why!!!!!!), so the hardwood might not be salvageable (which is why the previous owner put down the laminate in the room that is currently my sewing room).
We thought that Moof might be able to stay in the ugly carpet room while we’re gone, but he seems to dislike that carpet as much as, if not more than, we do and decided to help the process of tearing it out.
So, if we want a sewing room and a guest room, we will have to do something soon (and Moof gets to spend more time in his kennel until we rip it all out)! I can’t wait to get these Christmas presents done, and get back to some quilting and other projects that I can actually show you. The good news is that these nephew presents are pretty fast, but I can’t share until after Christmas. (Nor the 7 ones for the nieces.)
Now I’m just trying to figure out if I can swing buying the sewing machine I want as a Christmas present to myself… Of course, we could probably re-finish all the floors for the price of it.
How is your holiday sewing going?

It’s so great to have a room just for sewing! And a house of your own is nice too, best wishes!
